School and vocational training for young women

New education and training program for young women in Bagamoyo, Tanzania!

In a separate project assists Moyo Mmoja and Tano Trust disadvantaged girls and young women who either already had children or who are in a situation where they are likely to come to having children at a young age, without having completed primary school or learned a gainful occupation. This program gives them a real chance to even create a better future!

Tanzania is largely a male-dominated society. A number of unique traditions and customs continue unfortunately gender discriminatory attitudes that inhibit women and girls to develop freely and make their own choices for their lives.

There are now many women's groups and organizations that fight for women's economic, social and political rights - and they show each day that the efforts and commitment helps. Tanzania's new government since 2005 has put a strong focus on women's rights and several of the ministers - as Foreign Minister - is woman. It is still a long way to real equality in Tanzania, which in particular applies to the large poor segment of the population.

With generous assistance from the Norwegian AutoSock AS Moyo Mmoja and Tano Trust focused on girls and young women who either already had children or who are in a situation where they are likely to come to having children at a young age. These girls - in some cases as low as 12 years of age - are often deprived of their basic rights and opportunities to continue any education and live an active, free life. Most often they are held back in very lavlønnet manual work - or at worst as a local prostitute. For some, it is abuse that has led them to become pregnant, for others it is due to the social and economic situation they and their possible other family members are in.

We are convinced that the important steps for a general economic development of society and especially focus on women rettigehter, also lies in making each of these vulnerable groups are able to believe in themselves and ability to manage their own lives.

New Program: In cooperation with the Tanzanian authorities, we now create a program to assist a number of these young girls in Bagamoyo. This program will offer assistance to complete regular schooling for those who manage it - and customized training in the crafts that are better suited for. The latter also includes training in basic business and innovation within the market adaptation of small-scale production.

The desire and goal is that the girls individually or organized in groups to support themselves and be independent of the other family's willingness and / or society and traditional solutions.

Each participant followed up and the program includes - in addition to education - free of Health, counseling and information on relevant social and health-related topics

This is a brand newly started project that we have great faith! All the pieces have not yet fallen completely in place, but as they say, "the path as you go!" - A way we are happy to look forward to continuing on!
